I put the HD foam and seat cover right over the top of my Savage seat. Now that I have done this I realize that I could have gotten a large piece of leather and a soft foam pad and saved myself all the trouble of taking apart the HD seat. In fact, I am considering making another custom seat using this method. It really is quite a simple thing to do. Takes a little time and some creative thought, but WOW what a difference in comfort. The seat I built added about an inch or so in height but that is fine for me. Also, I built up the front of the seat a little higher to keep me from slipping forward when I ride. Nothing like custom fitting for individual needs.
